First I have to congratulate Christin who has done 7 anchor maneuvers within 2 days thereof 4 successful and one needing to be redeemed today. She did not get hurt or wet either!
Well how did all this happen just after 3 days together?
Christin joined me in Bullandö just before Anna and my sisters had to leave Saturday, we managed all to have lunch together though.
Then as usual the first task was to get an overview of our food supply and what needed to be purchased. This was easily managed since the small supermarket at Bullandö Marina carried everything we needed, just Müsli was out.
To spare us cooking we decided to have dinner at the Bullandö Krog which was great again!
Sunday started with all security instructions and before we left another cappuccino.
We sailed out of Bullandö after lunch when everybody else was returning home from sailing during the weekend. It was sunny but with strong winds fairly cold. Christin learned fast how to tack and handle all different winches, we even needed to reef when we were south of Sandhamn. Bullerö was our goal, but when we got there the good spots were occupied by 2 motor boats. So we checked another spot out that was to windy and then I decided to go to the neighbor island Melskär where I had been last year with Martin. There we had one neighbor anchor towards some rocks that really were in lee. We svoj anchored first, but the wind was so gusty that I rather wanted to be tied up. I went and checked the second best lee place out with the dinghy and took the rock pegs along. After returning to the boat we hoisted the anchor again and were prepared to tie up against rocks. Well, just when we were free our neighbors told us they were leaving and we could have their spot. So we tried and just before Christin could reach land scraped a rock with our keel, we were to far left from the spot our neighbors had been.
I was discouraged so we tried my (second best) spot twice without success drifting to much just before Christin could climb of. Very frustrating and hard work always getting the back anchor up every time, I was sweaty by now!
Four times was the charm when we for the second time tried our neighbors that had left spot this time further to the right and did not scrape a rock anymore. Finally we were successful and had an awesome spot totally in lee with almost mirror water around us.
Now Christin cooked Königsberger Klopse after her grandmother that is from there, what a great honor and delicious dish I was treated to.
The weather forecast was rain all night long which we had, but for breakfast the sky showed sun again.
We took our time without yoga though and had a long walk around the island Melskär for 2,5 hours and ate the leftovers for lunch. One dramatic moment was me going ahead back to the boat with Christin just 100m behind me even seeing her across the small bay when I reached the boat and then she didn't come. I had warmed up the leftovers and she still had not joined me. I got my walk shoes back on and started calling her. Suddenly she appeared almost at the same spot I had seen her last and it turned out she had had troubles finding across the bay back to the boat.
Back at the boat she really needed the leftovers to settle down.
Now we finally got out on the water again heading south having to tack to not hit stones or islands quite often. We soon were a great team, just Alfons had trouble steering with so many gusts and such strong wind above 10 m/s. 3 hours later we were in Jungfruskär a place I had been at with Linn. We caught our fish here that we were to slow to haul in. This time I wanted to svoj anchor (not sure there is an English word for the German "swojen" and if how it is spelled: svoj or swoj?), because last time with Linn we had to readjust just before bedtime because wind shifted, such a drag.
So we got a nice spot threw the anchor in and had a coffee and cookies as a reward. Over an hour later just when I started to write this blog I noticed we were closer to land, we had slipped! This time we were not still slipping as in Åland with Katja and Lukas, but still we needed to get the motor on, anchor up and reassess the situation.
As the anchor came to the surface it was completely full of seaweed as in Åland. Because we still expected steady winds with rainshower over night I felt svoj anchoring again was to risky. We sought out two spots marked in the harbour book that looked good windwise and after checking close up decided for the one. This time our maneuver was a success at first try, we just needed 30 minutes with spring and landlines and anchor line adjustment to be safe.
Now we sit inside and it has started to rain heavily after having a great fish soup dinner that Christin prepared.
Temperatures have dropped, but beeing here sailing is still absolutely amazing!
