Strange weather but pretty
Djupviken evening
So instead of being on the most western island of Åland tonight we are back in Käringsund with Wifi, showers and sauna etc. We even got a cappuccino after arriving!
But this was not the plan for today, so what happened? Most of the weather forecast was correct for today some fog in the morning, some thunderstorm, but the wind direction and strength was completely off. Well let's say instead of changing it stayed the same as yesterday and increased in strength!
This made our plan to go south west with a lot of stones in our passage a bit difficult, so after more than 5 hours on the water we resigned and sailed into the harbour of Käringsund, very cool maneuver!
Tomorrow the prediction is a bit more in favor for our task to get back to Sweden, hopefully westerly wind!
Since most days in the morning it is still quite calm, we will set out around 7 to avoid such waves and strong winds as we had this afternoon!
Back to this morning when one of the first things I had to do was getting all the seaweed of the rudder and propeller by diving under the boat after our Danöfladen anchor experience. A whole garden had made its home under the boat!
Since most of our passage was against the wind we motored and found a shortcut. Suddenly when taking this shortcut my depth meter started climbing towards 3 then 2 meters even if our chart said it should be 17m deep where we were. I quickly slowed down monitoring what happened our depth is 1,45m so I will be really nervous when reaching that number, well probably turn around before that. Luckily the lowest shown was 2,3m! Still scary when you expect it to be 17m!
Shortly after that back on track on a marked route we passed another narrow passage between 2 south marks and one north mark probably only 4-5m gate.
Tonight we enjoyed Matjessill with Gräddfil and Färsk potatis so god!
The weather front passing through over Åland today seems to have passed, so we expect better conditions for our crossing tomorrow.
Good night!
